At Chappaqua Choices, we had the intuition that a large portion of the electorate did not agree with the priorities the initial school budget reflected.
We were right.
Following the election, many people are curious -- not least the Board, we imagine -- what was it that drove the vote? Was it opposition to higher taxes? Opposition to SROs in general? Opposition to the way the district is being run?
The Board said they would survey the public. They created a survey with a single opinion question, and no questions to assure a proper sample.
We can do better.
We are doing a follow-up survey to understand how people voted, and why.
We are reaching people over social and email. We are asking questions about demographics to try and assure that the sample size matches the district numbers.
Ultimately we want to help pass a responsible budget. We want to see that the sort of decisions reflected in the new budget will get 50% -- or 60% if need be -- across the community.
